Testimonials
"As an Australian-born Muslim, I am interested in how Islam and Islamic law is understood and practised by Muslims in contemporary times, particularly in Western countries.
I have been supported financially by the University to undertake fieldwork; to meet and interview Muslims regarding aspects of Islamic divorce in Australia and Britain. I have also met and interviewed prominent public figures such as Professor Tariq Ramadan, Professor Tim Winter and Lord Nazir Ahmed of Britain’s House of Lords.
The expertise of the academic staff at the Centre, and the support they have given me, have been invaluable in guiding me in my research."

"Islamic studies is a most pertinent field in Australia and the world, so I believe that my specialty in Islamic education is timely.
The University of Melbourne has an excellent collection of primary sources in Islamic studies, which has assisted me greatly in my research. The academic and professional staff have also provided great support to me in my time here.
With the establishment of the National Centre of Excellence for Islamic Studies, I believe that future PhD students in Islamic studies will also continue to thrive."
