On Thursday 26th April the NCEIS hosted a visit by His Excellency Dr Seyed Mohammad Khatami, the Former President of Iran (1997-2005) at the Sidney Myer Asia Centre, University of Melbourne.

Dr Khatami attended a meeting consisting of representatives from the Victorian Board of Imams, Islamic Council of Victoria (ICV), NCEIS academics, Australian Federation of Islamic Councils (AFIC) and members of the Shi’a community. In his address Dr Khatami called for unity and dialogue among the various Muslim groups. Dr Khatami was also joined by H.E Dr Gholamali Khoshroo, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister (2002-2005).

President Khatami’s visit to the Centre was organised by the Centre for Dialogue at Latrobe University in collaboration with the ICV and NCEIS.
