LAST week the Melbourne Magistrates' Court refused bail to several Muslim men accused of an alleged terror plot.
The evidence presented against one of the accused included an intercepted phone conversation in which he allegedly told his wife of his intention to enter paradise by engaging in a war against infidels.
This seemed like damming evidence. He made matters worse for himself by refusing to stand in court, arguing that he only stands before God.
The evidence presented against the accused and his behaviour reveal an ideological antipathy against Australia and its institutions.
What makes young Muslims turn to the ideology of violence, to kill and ultimately die in the name of religion? There is no simple answer.

Virtual Islam & Transnational Networks
Religious discourses; and Diaspora Networks of Pakistani Women
Pakistani women have been discussed from a variety of perspectives – depending on the context; class; ethnicity; rural/urban location and research interests of scholars and researchers. The emerging themes range from victim hood; subjectivity; subordination; existing patriarchal norms; prevailing religious discourses and discriminatory nature of laws.
This paper would discuss the current situation, within the context of women’s social status and existing legal frameworks defining and redefining their public/private role. This paper argues that women are actively involved in a new form of religious conservatism – for the purpose of this paper I intend to use the term “transnational fundamentalism” since the emerging scenario links the local and global conservatives. These women are active agents of conservatives; assuming new roles through these religious paradigms, not mere conformists of a radical religious view but are interpreters of religious discourses. These women even reinterpreting fundamentalist’s agendas and are instrumental in dissemination of a particular orthodox view, forging alliance through new technologies – E-learning; Audio material and internet classes for religious education.
Iran's nuclear program in exchange of Jewish settlements of Israel
Some experts say that the quid pro quo agreement proposed by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu during his visit to Europe would help Israel enlist the support of the West on the issue of Iran's nuclear program, but according to other experts, the new tactics of the Israeli Prime Minister will have no action.
This week the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made a four-day trip to Europe, during which it was planned to discuss a peaceful settlement in the Middle East and Iran's nuclear program.
During his European tour, Netanyahu said that Israel would agree to partially freeze construction of Jewish settlements on the West Bank in exchange for a tough U.S. position against Iran's nuclear program, Guardian reported. Read more
